About Book My Houseboat
A small agency in Srinagar. We arrange stays on houseboats we know, with the families who run them — and we say plainly what we do not know.
Who we are
A Kashmir Agency, Not a Booking Platform
We are based in Srinagar and we arrange houseboat stays on Dal Lake. Six boats we know personally — we have been on board, met the family that runs each one and photographed the rooms as they are. Beyond those, 657 houseboats are registered on Dal Lake with the Kashmir Houseboat Owners Association, and we can arrange a stay on any of them.
There is no call centre here and no inventory system. When you write, a person in Srinagar reads it, picks up the phone to the owner and writes back.
How we actually work
Four Steps, and No Mystery About the Money

You send dates and a name
Your nights, how many of you there are, and a boat name if you have one. If you do not, tell us what kind of stay you want.

We ring the owner
We call the family that runs the boat and confirm the rooms are genuinely free on your nights — not held, not probably.

We send one written quote
One message: the rate, what the meals cover, what the transfer covers and anything you should know before you commit.
04
We arrange the transfer
Shikara at the ghat for your arrival time, cabs if you need them, and one person to call while you are here.
We do not own the houseboats. We arrange your stay with the owner and take our margin from the booking — nothing is added on top of what you were quoted.

Houseboats Registered on Dal Lake
Every one of them is registered with the Kashmir Houseboat Owners Association, and we can approach any owner on the list. What we will not do is write a description of a boat we have never boarded.

What We Will Not Do
Most of what goes wrong with a houseboat booking goes wrong before you arrive — in a photograph that was not of that boat, or a rate nobody intended to honour. These are the three rules we hold ourselves to.
No fake reviews
There are no invented guest quotes on this site and there never will be. When we have real reviews from real guests, with their names and their dates, we will publish those and nothing else.
No published rates we cannot honour
Every price slot on this site reads Rates on request. Houseboat rates move with the season, the room and the length of stay, and the owner sets them — so we confirm before we quote, in writing, once.
No boat we have not confirmed with the owner
We do not hold rooms speculatively and we do not send you towards a boat we have not spoken to. If a boat is not available on your nights, we will tell you that rather than move you quietly to another one.
