Book My Houseboat
Cancellation Policy
This policy explains how to cancel a houseboat stay we have arranged for you, whose terms apply, and what happens when weather or a road closure stops you travelling. It should be read with our refund policy and terms and conditions.
1. Scope of this policy
This policy applies to houseboat stays, shikara rides and tours arranged by Book My Houseboat for guests who have received and accepted a written quote from us.
We act as the agent of the houseboat owner. The accommodation contract is between you and the owner. Where the owner’s own terms are stricter or more generous than ours, the terms stated in your written quote are the ones that apply to your booking.
2. How to cancel
Send your cancellation in writing to bookmyhouseboat0@gmail.com or by WhatsApp to +91 99067 37924, from the number or address used to make the booking.
A cancellation takes effect from the time we acknowledge it in writing, not from the time it is sent. We acknowledge cancellations as soon as we see them. A verbal cancellation given to a houseboat owner or a driver is not a cancellation of the booking.
3. Cancellation schedule
The amounts retained and returned depend on how much notice we receive before your check-in date. The schedule below is the one that applies to bookings made through us.
| Notice given before check-in | Amount retained | Amount returned |
|---|---|---|
| More than 30 days | ||
| 15 to 30 days | ||
| 7 to 14 days | ||
| 48 hours to 6 days | ||
| Less than 48 hours | ||
| No-show |
The schedule above is being finalised with the owners we work with. Until it is published, the cancellation terms stated in your own written quote are the terms that apply to your booking.
4. Weather, road closures and circumstances beyond control
Kashmir weather and the Srinagar highways can prevent travel at short notice. Heavy snow, a landslide, a highway closure, a flight cancellation, a curfew or a restriction imposed by the authorities are not treated as an ordinary guest cancellation.
Where any of these prevents you from reaching your houseboat, tell us as early as you can. Our first step is always to ask the owner to move your dates rather than to cancel the stay, and in most cases the stay can be shifted within the same season. Where the dates cannot be moved, what is returned is decided with the owner and confirmed to you in writing.
Neither we nor the owner can be held responsible for costs outside the stay itself, such as flights, trains or taxis, arising from these events.
5. Changes to dates and guest numbers
Ask us about a change before cancelling. Moving dates, adding a night or changing the number of guests is often possible, and in peak season it depends entirely on whether the rooms are free.
A change of dates is not a cancellation, but a change that reduces the stay may be treated as a partial cancellation of the nights removed. We will tell you which applies before you confirm the change.
6. Cancellation by the owner or by us
Very occasionally an owner cannot honour a booking — damage to a boat, an illness in the family, or a mooring made unusable. If that happens we will tell you immediately and offer a boat of the same grade or better for the same dates.
If no acceptable alternative can be arranged, any advance you have paid through us for the stay is returned in full. This is the one case in which a full return is not subject to the schedule above.
