Houseboats on Nigeen Lake, Srinagar

The quiet lake. Fewer boats, cleaner water, almost no passing traffic — and a stay we arrange boat by boat rather than from a catalogue.

What Nigeen Is Like, and How It Differs From Dal

Nigeen sits at the northern end of the same water system as Dal, joined by a narrow channel, but it feels like a different place. It is smaller, the water is generally clearer, and the shoreline is trees and houses rather than a boulevard.

There is no floating market here and very few shikaras crossing at once. Most guests come for exactly that: three or four days of a deck, a book and the lake going flat in the evening. The trade is distance — you are further from the gardens, the old city and the restaurants, so plan on a cab for sightseeing.

Send Photographs and We Will Build Your Listing at No Cost

If you run a houseboat on Nigeen, we would rather send guests to a boat we can describe properly. Send us pictures of the rooms as they are — phone photographs are fine — with the boat name, how many rooms you have and your number.

We write the listing, show it to you before it goes live and take our margin from the booking. No listing fee, no exclusivity, and no rate published without your say-so.

FAQ

Questions About Nigeen Lake

Do you have houseboats on Nigeen Lake?

Not yet as photographed listings. We work with owners on Nigeen and can arrange a boat for your dates, but we will not put up a grid of boats we have not been on. Send your dates and we will find one and describe it to you honestly.

How is Nigeen different from Dal?

Nigeen is smaller, quieter and the water is generally cleaner. There is far less shikara traffic and no floating market, and it sits further from the centre of Srinagar.

Is Nigeen better for a first visit to Kashmir?

If it is your first time and you want the gardens, the old city and the lake life around you, Dal usually suits better. If you have been before, or you want to read on a deck for three days, Nigeen is the calmer choice.

I own a houseboat on Nigeen — can you list it?

Yes, and at no cost. Send photographs of the rooms as they are, the boat name and your number on WhatsApp or by email and we will build the listing and send it to you before it goes live.
