What to consider before you decide
Dal Lake
The best-known stretch, closest to the boulevard, the markets and the gardens. Busier water, more shikara traffic, and the most options. It suits first-time visitors and anyone planning to sightsee.
Nigeen Lake
Quieter and more enclosed, with less passing traffic in the evening. Slightly further from the busiest parts of the city, which is usually the point. It suits relaxed stays and couples.
The channels and inner moorings
Between the two lakes are smaller moorings that are calm and often better value. The trade-off is a slightly longer transfer to the road.
Getting to your boat
